about dan and this website

Hi, I’m Dan and it’s great to have you visit this site.
As of now, I’m a forty-something expat Brit who has been living in Cape Town, South Africa for the last twenty or so years’s career while not being a raging success has been a pretty fun ride so far with many lessons learned.

After leaving school at 16 to do a mechanical engineering apprenticeship (read I built cool stuff out of metal at a nuclear research facility) I spent the best twenty-five years in a manufacturing or construction environment.

During this time I designed small-scale manufacturing facilities, modified existing ones, sold large-scale perimeter security systems, and marketed large-scale perimeter security systems.

Aged forty I did a complete career pivot into the world of tech and Salesforce specifically. Designing and building CRM systems has given me some interesting challenges, but ones that my previous career prepared me for due to my understanding of how systems and people work.

The majority of my Salesforce career has been in the Nonprofit space but now I find myself in the Commercial Real Estate sector which has brought a whole new level of learning with it.
As you can imagine I’ve learned a lot of lessons, often painful ones, and this website is a chance for me to document them, and quite simply get them out of my head and onto paper. If you enjoy what you read then great I really hope you come back more often, I certainly appreciate the time you have taken out of your day.

Oh, and the website name…… back in 2017 I had this idea to create my own marketing consulting business for Small to medium-sized businesses, it started and finished pretty quickly, but the name SmOrgBizKit came from Small Organisation Business Kit as I was positioning myself as a one-stop shop. So there you go….
